There is now an abundance of fantastic pizzerias in London. The sourdough offerings of Pizza Pilgrims and Franco Manca - which uses a 'mother starter' yeast that owner Giuseppe Mascoli claims is over 500 years old - have reigned supreme for years, but all that could be about to change.

Their latest competitor is no less than the 'world's best pizzeria': L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele. It was at this restaurant's original branch in Naples that Eat Pray Love author Elizabeth Gilbert, played by Julia Roberts in the film iteration, said this:

"I love my pizza so much, in fact, that I have come to believe in my delirium that my pizza might actually love me, in return. I am having a relationship with this pizza, almost an affair."

Margherita and marinara are the only types of pizza available, but don't let this put you off. The special ingredient here is the tomatoes, I Sapori di Corbara, which were judged in The Guardian by three experts to be the best. You may like to note that at just under £5 a jar, we'll all be getting your money's worth. Marble tables and whitewashed walls create a simple yet intimate space where the heat of the pizza oven and sound of the dough being prepared fills the room. Good atmosphere and great pizza - what else could you ask for?

L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele opens Mon-Thurs 5-10:30pm, Fri-Sun 12-10:30pm anticapizzeria.co.uk
