Pretty Boho chic on a budget

IKEA is treating us to yet another very desirable, and very affordable, collaboration. This time it's the limited edition Jassa collection, which is all hand finished. Inspired by South East Asian design, the products are made from natural materials, under the direction of Dutch designer Piet Hein Eek.

Rattan, bamboo, water hyacinths, seagrass and cotton feature heavily, with an emphasis on natural fibres and hand-weaving where possible.

On a modest budget, any home can become a Bohemian hideout with these richly patterned cushions, rugs, plates and throws. For the more adventurous there is also a range of pre-cut fabric which you can fashion into anything you like.

The eclectic mix of furniture, textiles and accessories was put together by five different designers. Piet Hein Eek worked alongside IKEA in-house designers Nike Karlsson, Iina Vuorivirta and Paulin Machado, and Karin Gustavsson, and each designer has put his or her own stamp on the collection.

The hand finishing means that every piece is different. One rattan sofa might be slightly more curved than another; its texture slightly smoother or coarser. "That's the beauty of a handmade collection like this," says Finnish designer Iina Vuorivirta. "The production process is not mechanised, so you get a bit of variation in the end products." Many hours of work went into bending and weaving the materials, to create joins with virtually no nails or glue.

Highlights include flatwoven rugs from £25, cushion covers from £4, and handpainted plates from £3.

The Jassa collection will be available in March, for a limited time.
