Bowie/Collector at Sotheby's
Despite being a cultural icon and global celebrity for almost fifty years, Bowie kept his private art collection just that - private. A keen collector, his eye for art and __design was decribed as having 'remarkable range', spotting and acquiring many styles of artwork, sculpture and __design pieces.
Over 350 pieces from Bowie's remarkable collection are now on display at Sotheby's New Bond Street and will be sold in three seperate auctions on the 10th and 11th of November. Sotheby's are also hosting a Bowie Festival which will feature talks (including a discussion with Kate Chertavian Bowie's advisor and curator from 1993 to 2000), a children's day packed with activities and an all night view with a bar, DJ, guided tours and even breakfast.
To celebrate the collection experts have picked their personal highlights and told us what it is about the pieces that evoke thoughts of Bowie and his unique cultural insight into both art and life.
