Designer Kirstie Pringle graduated with a Certificate in Interior __design from KLC in March 2013. Since then she has worked for the likes of Studio Reed and Carden Cunietti, before becoming a designer for Suzy Hoodless last June. She is currently working on the Television Centre in White City, London. We questioned Kirstie on how she started her career in interior design...
Why did you decide to pursue a career in interior design?
I worked in media planning and advertising in London for four years, and despite enjoying it, I always knew I wanted to do something that would creatively challenge me. I decided to take the plunge and leave my job to chase the interior __design dream. I applied for KLC's 12-week Full Time Certificate course because the school offered an amazing fast track course allowing me to hit the ground running in the world of interior design as soon as possible. The way the course was structured enabled me to learn a lot about the industry in a short period of time.
What did the course at KLC teach you?
I learnt the confirdence to express my creative ideas, as well as a lot of technical skills and processes, which have been invaluable in the real world of interior design. We had brilliant and talented tutors, and I loved learning about the history of design through the KLC guided talks around the V&A.
And what about after the course?
The KLC careers service put me forward for an internship at Studio Reed - it was a great learning experience where I was able to pick up lots ideas around materials and colour. My first paid job was at Carden Cunietti, where I worked on a range of residential projects in London as well as Los Angeles, the South of France and Ibiza. I learnt a lot about furniture and fixtures and travelled with the studio to Maison & Objet in Paris and the Salone Del Mobile in Milan. I spent just over two years at Carden Cunietti, before moving to Suzy Hoodless' studio last June. We are very busy with a range of wonderfully unique projects; I am workig on two residential homes in London, as well as the development of the Television Centre in White City.
What is the most exciting project you have worked on?
Definitely the design and development of the residential amenities at the Television Centre in White City. We have worked on all the communal areas from screening rooms to huge outdoor terraces.
What is the best part of your job?
The fact I am always learning. It is also incredibly rewarding to see all your hard work and ideas come to life.
